EPISODE REVIEW

THE SHINOBI WHO TALKS TO ANIMALS

Jiro Azuma’s unusual gift places him at the centre of a supernatural conflict when he encounters Rago, a black cat with a secret identity. The opening chapter moves quickly, establishing Jiro’s family legacy, his instinct to protect animals, and the larger danger hidden behind an ordinary rescue.

This episode keeps the series focused on the relationship between inherited power and chosen responsibility. Its supernatural setting is introduced through action, but the character work comes from the decisions Jiro makes when the safest option would be to walk away. Rago’s presence gives each confrontation a second perspective and keeps the story’s mythology connected to an emotional bond.

WHAT WORKS

Black Torch is strongest when it combines quick supernatural action with a clear character motive. The episode’s central conflict gives Jiro a reason to fight while preserving the mystery around the hidden war. It also establishes a partnership that can grow through disagreement instead of instant trust.
