REVIEW

Season 1 follows Laios, Marcille, Chilchuck, and Senshi as they descend into a dangerous dungeon after Laios’s sister Falin is swallowed by a dragon. With money and supplies gone, the party begins eating the monsters they defeat. That premise is not a disposable gag: it becomes the series’ central way of asking how people adapt to an ecosystem instead of treating it as a catalogue of enemies.

What makes the season work is the patience with which it layers comedy over consequence. Laios’s enthusiasm is funny because it is sincere, while Marcille’s resistance gives every meal a point of friction. Chilchuck supplies practical suspicion, and Senshi turns cooking into a survival philosophy built from tools, timing, and respect for ingredients. Their recipes make the dungeon feel inhabited: traps, undead, plants, and beasts belong to a connected food chain, so each victory teaches the party something about the place they are trying to cross.

Under the bright meals, the season is about grief and the limits of a miracle. Falin’s absence gives the expedition urgency, but the party’s changing trust gives it texture. The further they travel, the more the dungeon’s history presses against their assumptions about rescue, power, and who gets to control a living world. Trigger’s animation shifts comfortably between expressive faces, tactile food detail, and unsettling fantasy anatomy. The result is a first season that can be hilarious in one scene and quietly frightening in the next without abandoning its warm belief in cooperation.

VERDICT

Season 1 is an unusually complete fantasy introduction: inventive enough for genre fans, character-led enough for newcomers, and confident enough to let a recipe carry exposition. It ends with the rescue still demanding more, but the emotional foundation is already richly prepared.
