What is Jujutsu Kaisen about?
Yuji swallows a cursed finger to save a classmate and becomes entangled with Ryomen Sukuna and the jujutsu sorcerers.
JUJUTSU KAISEN
QUICK TAKE
Jujutsu Kaisen pairs high-impact supernatural battles with a story that takes loss and responsibility seriously. Yuji’s impulsive decision gives the premise an immediate moral cost; the sorcerer ensemble and inventive curses keep the action distinctive. The pace can be relentless, and its violence is intense, but the emotional stakes keep the spectacle from feeling empty.

A HEROIC CHOICE WITH A PRICE
Crunchyroll’s official synopsis starts with Yuji Itadori saving a classmate by swallowing a cursed finger. Ryomen Sukuna then lives in his soul, and Yuji is guided into the world of jujutsu sorcery. The premise immediately turns his kindness into a dangerous obligation: the story asks what he can protect without losing himself.
That tension gives the supernatural setup a human center. Yuji’s optimism matters because it is tested, not because it makes every outcome easy. His relationships with fellow students and mentors provide warmth and humor before the next curse raises the pressure.
FIGHTS WITH PERSONALITY
The curse designs, varied abilities, and close-quarters choreography give confrontations their own identity. Battles tend to matter beyond winning: they expose how characters think, what they value, and how quickly a plan can fail. The animation and sound make the action memorable, while the underlying rules reward attention.
At the same time, the series moves quickly through new threats and terminology. That momentum can make major turns feel abrupt, especially when viewers need a moment to absorb what has changed. The balance of comedy, horror, and grief is purposeful but not always gentle.
VERDICT
Jujutsu Kaisen is a compelling supernatural shonen because its stylish fights are tied to real emotional consequences. It can be dense, fast, and unsettling, but its characters give the action a reason to matter. A strong pick for viewers who want bold animation, clever combat systems, and a darker edge.
Viewer note: Crunchyroll marks the series as not recommended for minors under 16 and lists violence, profanity, nudity, and smoking.
