QUICK TAKE
Fran and her sentient sword make a charming, capable team, and the non-human protagonist gives this isekai an easy point of difference. Its skill-growth loop can be satisfying, but it sometimes risks making each conflict feel like another upgrade. Season 2 is now underway, so the series’ next step is still unfolding.

THE PARTNERSHIP IS THE HEART
The central idea is simple and strong: a sword with a mind and a young beastgirl who needs power are better together than apart. The sword brings knowledge and a widening set of abilities; Fran brings the choices, emotion, and ambition that keep the story from becoming a weapon’s inventory screen. Their relationship is at its best when the sword supports Fran’s agency instead of replacing it.
That balance also gives the series its warmest moments. The humor comes from an unlikely partnership, while the adventure gives Fran room to become more than someone being rescued. The fantasy action is clearest when their different strengths have to work together.
WHEN PROGRESSION BECOMES A LOOP
Combat and skill acquisition are part of the appeal, but their game-like rhythm can make the story feel predictable: threat, battle, reward, stronger skill. The series is less compelling when that cycle does all the character work for it. Fran’s goals, her relationships, and the consequences of their choices are what give the action meaning.
The non-human point of view remains a useful distinction from more conventional reincarnation stories. It keeps the premise memorable, but it needs to keep shaping the world and the characters rather than serving only as a flashy label.
SEASON 2 HAS ROOM TO BUILD
Crunchyroll News reported that Season 2 began streaming on HIDIVE ahead of its October 2026 broadcast. The official announcement spotlights Fran and her sword returning, with the opening theme “DREAM OF BUTTERFLY” by FZMZ. That makes this a good moment to revisit the partnership, but the new season is still ongoing, so this review is not a complete Season 2 verdict.
For viewers who enjoy fantasy action with a non-human lead and a strong central duo, the series is an easy recommendation to sample. The main caveat is that the leveling structure can flatten momentum when every obstacle is solved by adding another skill.
VERDICT
Reincarnated as a Sword works best as a partnership adventure: Fran’s drive and the sword’s abilities make each other more interesting. Its progression mechanics occasionally turn conflict into a checklist, but the central duo gives the show a clear reason to continue. Season 2 is in progress; early verdict: fun, approachable fantasy action with room for richer stakes.
