Retired hitman Taro Sakamoto protects his family and quiet life when his past catches up with him.
SAKAMOTO DAYS
QUICK TAKE
Sakamoto Days turns one sharp contrast—legendary hitman, quiet family shop—into energetic action-comedy. Taro’s calm exterior and inventive staging keep fights playful without erasing their danger. The ensemble brings personality; the balance between episodic comedy and larger action arcs can feel uneven.

THE WORLD’S MOST DANGEROUS RETIREMENT
Netflix’s official synopsis says Taro Sakamoto retired for love and wants a quiet family life, but an old colleague demands he return to the assassin world. That premise gives each encounter a built-in joke: Sakamoto is still formidable, but his priorities are now his family, store, and keeping his community safe.
The best action sequences use the everyday world as part of the choreography. Props, space, and timing make fights inventive, while Sakamoto’s stillness is a comic counterpoint to chaos. The supporting cast adds energy without taking away the family motive.
ACTION COMEDY WITH A PACING TRADE-OFF
The show moves between funny routines and high-energy confrontations. At times, episodic beats and longer plot movement do not blend smoothly; the rhythm can shift sharply between a gag and a serious fight.
When the action and character comedy overlap, Sakamoto Days is distinctive. When they sit apart, it can feel like two pacing modes competing. The premise and fight design still make it an easy recommendation for stylish action-comedy fans.
VERDICT
Sakamoto Days is a lively hitman-retirement comedy with inventive action and a warm family center. It is less consistent when episodic humour and longer arcs pull in different directions, but the core setup has charm. A good pick for viewers who want action, comedy, and heart in the same series.
Viewer note: Netflix rates the series TV-MA.
