QUICK TAKE

Tomb Raider King has a crisp action-fantasy hook: a betrayed relic raider returns to a world before supernatural artifacts reshape its balance of power. The premise promises smart raids and satisfying reversals; the test is keeping Jooheon’s future knowledge from making every win predictable.

Dreaming Anime is a Trinidad-rooted, Caribbean anime publication for fans worldwide.

RELICS TURN TOMBS INTO POWER CENTERS

In 2025, mysterious tombs appear around the world, each holding relics that grant supernatural abilities. Those who secure the artifacts first build extraordinary power; everyone else risks serving the new order. Jooheon Suh is a raider who enters tombs to steal relics. After his employer betrays him and leaves him for dead, he is sent fifteen years into the past—before the relic race has fully begun.

That setup gives the adventure two clear engines. There is the physical challenge of raiding dangerous tombs, and there is the strategic advantage of knowing what is coming. Jooheon is not starting from nothing: years of field experience and future knowledge make preparation, timing, and information as valuable as strength. That is a sharper hook than a simple treasure hunt.

THE SECOND-CHANCE ADVANTAGE

The best idea in the premise is that relics are not just collectibles. They change who has leverage. If Jooheon can claim an artifact before a powerful group builds its influence around it, a single raid can alter the wider balance of the world. That gives the story room for tactical choices, rival treasure hunters, and uneasy alliances—not only a succession of bigger fights.

The danger is built into the same advantage. When the lead knows the future, suspense can drain away if every setback is solved by remembering the next move. Tomb Raider King works best when foreknowledge creates new complications rather than an automatic win: people can change, rivals can adapt, and information can be incomplete. The relic-hunt format needs those costs and surprises to keep its momentum.

A PROMISING ACTION-FANTASY ENGINE

The series is adapted from SAN.G’s web-novel story and directed by Seung Wook Woo at STUDIO EEK, who also handles series composition. The core idea is easy to grasp, the objective is immediate, and the reset gives Jooheon a natural reason to act decisively. For viewers who enjoy revenge stories, supernatural artifacts, and protagonists who win through preparation as well as force, the opening premise is an inviting entry point.

My reservation is about sustainability, not the hook itself. A time-regression power fantasy needs more than a clever lead collecting relics ahead of schedule; it needs meaningful resistance and consequences. If the raids keep changing the relationships and the world around Jooheon, the concept has plenty to build on. If not, its strongest idea could become a predictable checklist.

VERDICT

Tomb Raider King is an easy recommendation to sample for fans of strategic action fantasy and high-stakes treasure hunts. Its central twist—using a raider’s hard-won experience to seize supernatural relics before the world knows their value—does a lot of work. Whether the anime becomes more than a satisfying power-fantasy premise depends on how often it makes that advantage costly.

Adaptation notes: Crunchyroll identifies the animated series as an adaptation of SAN.G’s web novel. Yen Press publishes the official English manhwa edition, adapted by Yuns of REDICE STUDIO with art by 3B2S.
